G'day, mate! Want me to serenade you all?
| Mirror Image
Have you ever meet someone for the first time, and yet, somehow, you both just "clicked"? Now, why was that? Part of the reason may have been that the person mirrored you, that you saw in that person things about your self that you liked. A commonality within your personalities somehow drawn you to this person... an attraction of some sort. An experience like this often left a pleasant feeling in you. Then again, you also meet a person who grated you the wrong way, sometimes without even uttering a single word. You found yourself totally annoyed with their way of talking or their mannerism or their attitude. But are they really different from yourself? I ask of you : just take a look of yourself in the mirror. Yes, it may be hard to do so, but you may just find some of the same traits of the very person who annoyed you. When realization finally dawns upon you, you will gain a deeper knowledge of yourself and the changes you need to make. Then you can gain an understanding of others and are more accepting of them and all their imperfections. So the next time you find something very annoying in another, look in the mirror. Is that you looking back?
| Detached
Blank paper and a fancy pen. Mug of hot coffee and goddamned free cigarettes. Finding someone who you're content enough to bleed yourself over. That's just about all really. Everything else can just go to hell.
No
internet. No outside contact. No phone calls. I haven't felt this
anti-social since... well... I've probably never felt as anti-social as
I've been these past few weeks or so.
Have issues. Life sucks.

hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a
world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world
filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe.”

| Process I am reminded today, however, that there are bigger things going on in the world today than in my world. There are more people in this world than me. Take Iran for example. People are fighting, dying, enveloped in anger, confusion, and misinformation. There aren't many elections that are completely fair, anywhere in the world. Hell, look at 2000 and 2004. Not to mention the fact that in the scheme of "the majority rules" there is always a minority. I suppose that's something we have to live with when we form a civilized society of any sort. There is no perfect election, no perfect government, no perfect candidate. And that's ok. The world isn't about perfection, it's about working with what we perceive as imperfections to create beauty. Processing dirt to form diamonds. Processing human greed, and selfishness, into the common good.
That process isn't always pretty, peaceful, or easy. Honestly, I'm not sure it ever really is when it matters. The democratic process specifically is historically notorious for being messy to set up, and challenging to maintain. It requires time, energy, and thought. There are no shortcuts. That being said, I wish the Iranian people the patience to allow themselves the time to develop, the energy to continue to work through the challenges they will have on their journey, and the faith to trust that they are on the path that is right for them. I want to encourage them not to give up, to go to and stay at the table, and to persevere in finding creative, intelligent, mutually beneficial solutions to their challenges. Because they exist.
